Hello michaelmitchellI'm guessing that you mean:

Simplify $\displaystyle \frac{x^2+x-12}{x-3}\cdot\frac{x^2-2x-3}{x^2+5x+4}$

In which case you factorise the quadratic expressions to get:

$\displaystyle \frac{(x-3)(x+4)}{x-3}\cdot\frac{(x-3)(x+1)}{(x+4)(x+1)}$

and then divide out the common factors to get

$\displaystyle \frac{x+4}{1}\cdot\frac{x-3}{x+4}$

and simplify further to get

$\displaystyle x-3$
