Thread: Equations with fractions

Just a quick one if you're up for it!

(2x)/(x-1) - (x+1)/(x+2) = 0

My working out:

2x^ + 4x - x^ + 1 = 0
x^ + 4x + 1 = 0
x = ( -4 ± sqrt(4^ -4*1*1))/ 2*1
x = ( -4 ± sqrt(16 - 4))/ 2
x = (-4 ± sqrt(12))/2
ANS: x= -0.27 or -3.73 (2 d.p.) The book says -0.27 or 3.73
