# Math Help - Ratinal Exponents

1. ## Ratinal Exponents

Hey, whats up guys? New here,

Alright how would I write this as an expoent?

$
[squareroot]3x^5
$

Seems like it might be simple for some of you but I can't figure it out, the answers telling me 3^1/2X5/2

Im stumped. And yeah, move it if its in the wrong section. Thanks guys

$\sqrt{3x^5}=\sqrt{3}\times\sqrt{x^5}$

Then remember that $(\sqrt[a]{3})^b=3^{\frac{b}{a}}$

3. okey dokey....thanks a lot

My calculator tells me error 2 (lol) the answers are telling me -3...how do I attack this queston?

DO notice that $(-9)^{0.5}$ and $-9^{0.5}$ are totally 2 different thing . Brackets play a very important role .

So $(-9)^{0.5}$ is undefined because you cant square root a negative number .

$-9^{0.5}$ will give you $-3$ .
