this is my question:
$\displaystyle 3\frac{1}{2}$ x $\displaystyle 1\frac{1}{4}$
i need to know how to do that queston but could you please ut workings out!!! thanks
Specifically, what he did was write 3 as 6/2 so that 3+ 1/2= 6/2 + 1/2= 7/2 and write 1 as 4/4 so that 1+ 1/4= 4/4+ 1/4= 5/4. And, yes, 5/4 is just a simpler way of writing $\displaystyle \frac{5}{4}$
As to what you wrote, yes, 6+1= 7 but no, 3x2 is not equal to 6+ 1!
