need help on a step by step approach to doing these and similar

i can do the basic ones but when they add fractions etc i get lost

$\frac{48a^4y^{-5}}{\frac{1}{8}y^{-3}a^{\frac{1}{2}}}$

$(48\times8)a^4a^{-\frac{1}{2}}y^{-5}y^3$

Then use the law of indices to continue ..

yeah i got the indices laws down but could you explain how you got times 8 plz silly question but need to clarify
