Call the cost of the hamburger without tax, "X". The tax is 10% of that or (0.1)X. Adding the tax to the cost gives X+ 0.1X= 1.01X= 1.00. Now divide both sides by 1.01 to get X.

    1.00 - (1.00 \div 11)
