A carpenter used 30ft of molding three pieces to trim a garage door.. if the long piece was 2ft longer than twice the length of each shorter piece, then how long was each piece?
I am thinking the equation is 30= 2( p+p)+2 +p +p

p = length of short pieces

the long piece was 2ft longer than twice the length of each shorter piece

long piece = 2+2p

30 = 2p + (2p+2)
