# Math Help - Truncated and Non-truncated distribution

1. ## Truncated and Non-truncated distribution

I am pretty clear about the truncated distribution as the omission of the unimportant variate values from the given probability distribution. However I want to know more about the differences between the truncated and non-truncated distribution.I googled it but to my despair got nothing about non-truncated distribution.

2. I'm not at all 'clear' on what.........

I am pretty clear about the truncated distribution as the omission of the unimportant variate values from the given probability distribution

means.

3. Simply I don't know much about non-truncated distribution and I couldnot find much about it on the net.

The non-truncated distribution is just the distribution.

5. But what kind of?

What did you start with, observed/empirical distribution, normal Poisson, ...?

You are not telling us much about your real problem.

7. I calculated the mean and variance of the binomial and poisson distribution truncated at X=0.I was asked by my professor to write the differences between truncated and non -truncated distribution, however I don't know about the later part.

He is asking for the mean and variance of the corresponding binomial and Poisson distribution (that is with the same parameters but without the truncation - look them up on Wikipedia).
