1. ## Can anyone help me with this...

A researcher wants to see if there is a significant difference between Republicans and Democrats in terms of being for or against and amendment to allow prayer in public schools. He takes a random sample of 50 voters and asks for their political affiliation and their position on the prayer amendment. All the subjects were either Republican or Democrats, and all were either against the amendment.

a. what statistical test should be used on the data? Briefly explain why they should use this test.

b. What would be the critical value at the 0.02 level.

c. what decision would you make if the test value = 4.29??

cheers

This is a difference between two proportions problem

Our Null Hypothesis would be $H_0:\, p_x-p_y=0$ and the Alternative Hypothesis would be $H_1:\, p_x-p_y\neq0$

Since this is a two tailed test, the critical value is $z\geq z_{0.01}=2.326$

c. what decision would you make if the test value = 4.29??
Since $4.29 > 2.326$, our test statistic is in the critical region. Thus, we reject $H_0$.
