A rental agency, which leases heavy equipment by the day, had found that one expensive piece of equipment is leased, on the average, only one day in five. if rental on one day is independent of rental on any other day, find the probability distribution of Y, the number of days between a pair of rentals.

Can anyone please explain me the steps, i have a midterms soon and i am really struggling with that. thank you very much in advance.

Assume a rental on a particular day. Then you want the distribution for Y, the number of days before the next rental.

Then Y ~ Geometric(p = 1/5).
