A good beginning stats book is Elementary Statistics by Larson and Farber.

It explains things well with lots of examples.

    Hi!

I recently came across this book and wished I had it when I started, it's "Probability and Stochastic Processes, a friendly introduction for electrical and computer engineers", by Yates and Goodman.

It was really helpful for me, many concepts are very well explained, specially in the first part of the book.

    You could try:

Mathematical Statistics and Data Analysis, by John A. Rice.

But I would recommend you try reading through it first before buying. It has very few examples and the problems in it are quite hard.
