Testing a claim
At a certain large university a sociologist speculates that male students spend considerably more money on junk food than female students do. To test her hypothesis, the sociologist randomly selects from the registrar's records the names of 300 students. Of these, 175 are men and 125 are women. She then finds that the sample mean of the amount spent on junk food per week by the men is €20 and sample standard deviation is €6. For the women the sample mean is €14 and the saple standard deviation is €5.
Test the sociologist's claim using one-tailed test at the 5% level of significance.
