    Post Stats Problem with probabilities

    Suppose that two teams, A and B, are playing each other for the championship and that team A has a 3/5 probability of winning any game between the two teams.
    1. If the championship is best three of five, what is the probability that team A wins?

    2. If the championship is best four of seven, what is the probability that team A wins?

    This is just a tree problem. Go ahead and set it up. Just notice that you may not get in all the games if one team dominates.

    1 Game

    3/5 A

    2/5 B

    2 Games

    3/5 A and 3/5 A <== If it's a best of 3, we're done.

    3/5 A and 2/5 B

    2/5 B and 3/5 A

    2/5 B and 2/5 B <== If it's a best of 3, we're done.

    3 Games ...
