1. ## probability density functions

i have the prob density function 1-(x/4) between 1 and 3...

i need to work out the median but the values i get are completly wrong, would anyone post the answer and how you get it??? i get like 7.1.. this is really urgent TIA!!!

You must solve $\int_{1}^{a} 1 - \frac{x}{4} \, dx = \frac{1}{2}$, where a is the median value .....

$\left( a - \frac{a^2}{8} \right) - \left( 1 - \frac{1}{8} \right) = \frac{1}{2}$ ......

I get $a = 4 - \sqrt{5}$ as the only value lying in the interval [1, 3].
