Advice or suggestion on a book

I am taking Statistic Theory (part one) at a university and we are currently using "Probability and Statistics" By DeGroot and Schervish, 3rd edition. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion on a book that would better explain the concepts. I am having trouble with combinations and permuatations the most. The second chapter deals with conditional probability and I also find it hard since I am not comfortable yet with combinations and permutations.

I am sure our teacher is a nice guy and if he was teaching this in chinese and we under stood chinese, we would be learning. The first week he often asked us which english word to use when putting notes on the board. When we ask about a homework question, he mentions that he does not know the answer himself. So it seems we are on our own for any help.

    Any advice would be great!
