Thread: Finding Population Mean and Variance from Sample mean and Variance assuming Normal D.

Hello,

I'm trying to understand how to find Population Mean and Variance from Sample mean and Variance assuming a Normal Distribution.

I was given a sample where I calculated the sample mean and variance. It then asks to estimate the mean and variance assuming that the values are Gaussian Distributed.

You cannot find the exact mean and variance from a sample you can only give a range in which you think they lie. Read up on Confidence Intervals.
