    Statistics and probability

Each of us has an ABO blood type, which describes whether two characteristics called A and Bare present. Every human being has two blood type alleles(gene forms), one inherited from our mother and one from our father. Each of these alleles can be A, B, or O. Whichtwo we inherit determines our blood type. The table showswhat our blood type is for each combination of two alleles. We inherit each of a parent's two alleles with probability0.5. We inherit independently from our mother and father.

    (a)
Jennifer has alleles A and O. Jose has allelesA and 8. They have two children. What is theprobability that at least one of the two childrenhas blood type B? Show your method.

    Re: Statistics and probability

    Hey asilvester635.

The first thing you might want to do is construct the event space for the blood types and the alleles and then construct the events corresponding to individual alleles and then the intersection and union of arbitrary alleles.

Once this is done the probability is will be that P(Child1 = TypeB OR PChild2 = TypeB) where you can convert the allele probabilities into blood type probabilities (or vice versa).
