using CI- what does overlap mean??

    Hi

The original question was: Is the anaesthetic effective in reducing stress for disbudded animals?

From the given data, I obtained confidence intervals as shown below in bold

    One-Sample T: Change_DB (disbudding)

Variable N Mean StDev SE Mean 95% CI
    Change_DB 6 -0.311 0.370 0.151 (-0.699, 0.078)

    MTB > Onet 'Change_LADB'.

    One-Sample T: Change_LADB (local anaesthetic)

Variable N Mean StDev SE Mean 95% CI
    Change_LADB 8 0.208 0.372 0.131 (-0.103, 0.519)

My question here is....using confidence intervals, how can I comment on the effectiveness of the local anaesthetic in reducing stress for cows that undergo disbudding.

I found both intervals overlap...then what does this mean? can anyone explain please

    What is your hull hypothesis?

Are you asked to comment on the overlapping?

Does your hypothesised mean fall in the confidence interval?
