Thread: simple random sample question

A variable x has a left skewed distribution in population...

a) if a large (500 observations), simple random sample is taken from the population roughly what shape would you expect the sample to have? why?

b) if two, simple random samples of size 500 were taken from this population, would you expect the two sample distributions to have exactly the same shape? why or why not?

It appears to be calling on your opinion based on your knowledge of the "Law of Large Numbers". Well, what say you?

so, b would be more accurate because the sample size is twice as large and it would be a different shape?

but, what does it mean by "shape?"

No, the two populations are the same size. Would he shape be different or a different sample?

It is a left-skewed population. Would the samples show the same distribution?
