Matching lottery numbers.
Hello Please help me out.

A lottery players choose 6 numbers, 1 to 9 . example 742735

to match all the numbers the odds are 1/738.1125
to match 5 the odds are 1/492.075

or so i think.

So if 100,000 people played 135.5 would match 6
but would as the odds suggest 203 match JUST 5?

or would the 135.5 matching 6 need to be subtracted from the 203 leaving 67.5 people.

Thanks

Matching all the numbers means getting 1 particular permutation of those 6 integers. Since the total number of numbers (having 6 integers from 1 to 9) is 9^6 = 531441 So to match all the numbers the odds are 1/531441

In the same way it will be (6*9)/9^6.
