i am having trouble answering this question:
a local council has data concerning the number of children on free school meals and the number of households in its area and it is known from this data that the mean number of children on free school meals per household is 1.40. it is suggested that the number of children on free school meals per household can be modelled by a Poisson distribution with mean 1.40 in order to test this a random sample of 1000 households is taken giving the following data:
number of children number of households
should the proposed model be accepted? can you suggest how the model may be improved?
