    question about finding population

A study on car-pooling was done where officials observed 200 vehicles and recorded the number of passengers in each.

I'm trying to find the population. The definition of population is the collection of objects or items about which a conclusion is to be formed.

I'm confused because I'm not sure if the conclusion is to be formed about the people involved in the car pooling or the vehicles themselves. For example: people with a long commute to work car-pool versus large vans are used for car-pooling.

It depends on what you are studying, if it is the vehicle, the population is the set of vehicles that could in principle have been observed. If it is people, it is the people who travel in the vehicles that could have been observed.

Your example is incomprehensible so no answer can be given for that.
