    Exclamation Binary homework help

    1. I have some questions on binary numbers.

    The questions looks like 1010+0111=?

The two binary numbers are signed (twos compliment) binary numbers. Can someone help explain how to do this problem? I've tried it many different ways but I can't seem to get it to come out right.

Sorry if if this is the wrong forum. I wasn't sure which one to post binary questions in.

    Re: Binary homework help

    just add them

    $1010 + 0111 = 10001$ but we toss the carry from the 4th digit to get $0001 = 1$

    is this correct?

    $1010 = -(0101+0001) = -0110 = -6$

    $0111 = 7$

    $-6 + 7 = 1$

    so yes it is.
    Thanks from topsquark
