Do you know how to derive the metric tensor given a vector representing a vector in one system through the basis vectors of another?

Hint: Try finding the tangent vectors and use this information to derive the metric tensor and then show that if you have linearly-independent but non-orthogonal vectors that you get non-zero elements in the non-diagonal entries of the metric tensor.
