    Plot reverse engineering

The image above is a plot made from a formula. Is it possible to use reverse engineering on a image to obtain a formula?

(I doubt that plot is "made from a formula" but is more likely a plot of points with particular characteristics determined by experimental iteration of a formula)

Try chasing down the references in the further reading section, and the references there as well.
