    Image-processing Algorithm

    I need some help with a lot of the symbols in these series of equations.

    I'm assuming \Delta g(x,y) is some kind of array or matrix. I need to know how exactly |g1(x,y) - g2(x,y)| is calculated.

    Also for equation 2, I'm at lose for how to solve for mx and my.

    For equation 3, is \delta ^ 2 some kind of weird symbol for second derivative? \delta is introduced so suddenly I don't really know what to do with it.

    A grey scale image is an array of intensity values (encoded in some manner often an integers in the range 0-255)$\displaystyle g(x,y)$ where $\displaystyle x$ and $\displaystyle y$ are the horizontal and vertical pixel indices.

    So an image is an array $\displaystyle g(x,y)$. Here we have a pair of images $\displaystyle g_1(x,y)$ and $\displaystyle g_2(x,y)$ and $\displaystyle \Delta g$ is the absolute value of the difference between the images.

    For equations 2 you do not solve for $\displaystyle m_x$ amd $\displaystyle m_y$ you write some code to find the required values.

    For $\displaystyle \delta$ you will have to go back to the source and look for its definition, it is some sort of small constant.
