    Wave Theory - Damping

Can someone please illustrate and explain in simple language (cause I'm not really the brightest hippo of the pack):

    • What Damping is?
    • What it's used for?
    • Practical examples?
    Regards,

EDIT: Also, can someone explain to me in a very simple and easy to understand way what Huggen's principle is and how it explains refraction etc.
