Computational geometry: sampled path
I am facing this problem: I have an unknown curvilinear path between two points and a sampling of this path with some error. That is: I am driving a car along a road using GPS . I record every day my positions and after a month I want to be able to trace a smooth line among all the points I collected so that it locates as precisely as possible the real road. GPS positioning are subject to some errors so I do not find each point exactly "on the road".
I'd like to face this problem in the most correct way but i don't even know how to call it or where to search some literature about it.
