1. ## crests period, frequency, wavelength..

A woman is standing in the ocean, and she notices that after a wave crest passes, five more crests pass in a time of 62.0 s. The distance between two consecutive crests is 36 m. Determine, if possible, the following properties of the wave.

need to find these:

period s
frequency Hz
wavelength m
speed m/s
amplitude m

also, not sure why the speed is not .5806 m/s, maybe i'm not doing this right. meters/seconds?

and i know that the frequency formula is: 1/T

not sure on the calculation for the period.

anyone who can work some of this out please.

2. The period is the time between crests - there are 5 crests over 62 s, so the period is 62/5.

The frequency is the inverse of the period - 5/62.

The wavelength is the length between crests, which is given as 36 m.

The speed is wavelength / period - 36 / (62 / 5).

The amplitude is how tall each crest is, but that data is not given and we cannot calculate it from the other given values.

3. Okay i see now with the speed, i was calculating it wrong my m/s it is Wavelength / period. Thanks very much for these, now i won't get the formula equations messed up I was using. Appreciate this very much.

I got: period 12.4 s
frequency .081 Hz
wavelength 36 m
speed 2.9 m/s

and I was trying to calculate this, but that is correct, its not possible from what we have.
