    Statics

    i am stuck on question 7b

    when they get 2Tcosθ=2w they are looking at both of the rings but i thought you can only take one part of the system at once and deal with it but you cant look at two individual parts of a system and add them. all so if they are letting forces up =forces down why did they leave out R1 and R2

    this equation is based solely on the forces acting on the bottom ring ... see attached FBD

    thanks.
    i was looking at the two rings and I thought they were forming that equation form them and i could not understand. i know now though they were looking at the forces on the particle.
