I understand that RMS value is the proper reading for a sinusoidal current, and I am under the impression that RMS = 0.7 x Vpeak. But I need to know how to work out the Average value. ??

Aveage of what? The average of a sinusoid is 0. The RMS is approximatly
as you say: RMS = Vpeak/sqrt(2).
