Thread: electric circuit problem

There is a circuit that consists of a 5 Ohm and a 10 Ohm resistor in series with a 45 V battery. Draw the circuit.

Calculate the total current and the voltage drops across each resistor.

i know that since its in series, they would be connected in a linear line i believe. because if one doesn't work, the other one wouldn't

need some help with that and the voltage drop details.

The total resistance is 15 Ohm, Ohm's law then allows us to calculate the current, so:

45 = 15 I,

so I =3 Amps.

The current through each or the resistors is the same as they are in series,
so for the 5 Ohm resistor we have:

V = 5x3 = 15 Volts,

and the remaining 30 Volts will be dropped accros the 10 Ohm resistor.
