    checking matrices for linear independence

    M1 = 1 0
    5 6
    M2 = 3 4
    2 0
    M2 = 0 7
    1 3

    M1, M2, M3 are 2 x 2 matrices.
    How do you check the {M1, M2, M3} for linear independence?
    Also, how do you determine the span?
