Hi there,

I've got an exam in a couple of days and a particular math symbol is troubling me it's a plus sign within a circle.

Any Ideas???

Usually denotes the direct sum of and . ( and being two groups or two vector spaces or...)

yeah, I'm working with vectors and vector spaces.

Does this mean I've just to add the two vectors??

The particular problem it's in relation to is u(the plus sign in a circle symbol) v = u-v

There is no one meaning for .
I have seen it used in many, many different ways.
The best you can do is to follow your textbook/instructor.
A definitions should have appeared there.
