    Solve for it like so:

    $\displaystyle g(x)=k(x)$

    $\displaystyle 2x^2 - 8 = -x^2 - 2$

    $\displaystyle 3x^2 - 6 = 0$

    $\displaystyle 3x^2 = 6$

    $\displaystyle x^2 = 2$

    $\displaystyle x = \pm \sqrt{2}$
