    distance between 2 lines

    x-3=4y-2=z+1; x=3-2t, y=t, z=1+t

I am a bit confused that to find the distance between 2 lines, does it assume that 2 lines are parallel?? Thanx

No it does not, the distance between skew lines is the minimum distance between points one on one line and the other on the other line.
