Dummit & Foote is a harder read, but a much better reference.

I still find Topics in Algebra by Herstein a wonderful book to read (but it omits a lot of stuff...like group actions).

Thanks for the reference, I decided to get this one. I'm only skimming for now but already I have a much better idea of what the Grad books were talking about. Lots of examples and exercises. My kind of text!
