    Word Subscript Mystery

    Replied to a post by copying from a word document and the subscripting didn't carry over.

    However, subscripting carried over to a new post, as shown below.

    Now, out of curiousity, I will reply to this post by copying the same material from the Word document and see what happens.

    s112+s222+s332)2 = s114+s224+s334 + 2(s112s222+ s112s332+ s222s332)

    (s11+s22+s33)2 = s112+s222+s332 + 2(s11s22+ s11s33+ s22s33) = 0 because sii=0. So
    s112+s222+s332 = -2(s11s22+ s11s33+ s22s33)

    (s112+s222+s332)2 = 4[s112s222+s112s332+s222s332 + 2(s11+s22+s33)(s11s22s33) and sii=0. So
    s112s222+s112s332+s222s332 = (s112+s222+s332)2 and substitute this into first eq to get:

    s114+s224+s334 = (s112+s222+s332)2 , or in indicial notation:

    sii4 = sii2sjj2

    Re: Word Subscript Mystery

    Copied from Word the same as in first post.

    Any explanations or suggestions?

    (s112+s222+s332)2 = s114+s224+s334 + 2(s112s222+ s112s332+ s222s332)

    (s11+s22+s33)2 = s112+s222+s332 + 2(s11s22+ s11s33+ s22s33) = 0 because sii=0. So
    s112+s222+s332 = -2(s11s22+ s11s33+ s22s33)

    (s112+s222+s332)2 = 4[s112s222+s112s332+s222s332 + 2(s11+s22+s33)(s11s22s33) and sii=0. So
    s112s222+s112s332+s222s332 = (s112+s222+s332)2 and substitute this into first eq to get:

    s114+s224+s334 = (s112+s222+s332)2 , or in indicial notation:

    sii4 = sii2sjj2

    Re: Word Subscript Mystery

    Tried copying from first post to this reply- didn't work.

    Then tried copying from first post to a reply in another post, which worked before as a work-around but not this time. It looks like the work-around has been corrected.

    I realize it's a bit ugly, but why not just use the LaTeX on the site? It sounds like the Word equation formatting simply doesn't agree with the site software.
