According to Wikipedia, the standard basis consists of orthogonal unit vectors, while v1 and v2 are neither orthogonal not unit. So, what does a "standard basis vector" means here? A vector from*some*standard basis, i.e., just a unit vector?

the standard basis for R^3 is {(1,0,0), (0,1,0), (0,0,1)}

[ 1 -2 -2]

[-1 2 3]

reduce it echo-matrix

[ 1 -2 -2]

[ 0 0 1]

here (0,1,0) is required for generating R^3
