I am trying to write a hook for vectors on a linear algebra course. Does anyone have an opening fon vectors that will have a real impact on students?
i will give you the same one i was given, long ago:
for many things, answering the question "how much?" is enough. but sometimes, one needs to know not only "how much", but also "which way?" vectors are the natural type of thing to answer such questions with, for they are capable of expressing geometry, not just "size".
