Math Help - 3x3 Matrices

    3x3 Matrices

    Ok so I'm not going to type the matrix out, but the directions for the probs I'm looking at say "Find all values of λ such that the given matrix is singular." I am shown a 3x3 matrix with 3 λ's in it. What in the world do I need to do to find the values of λ?? I really have no clue. Thanks for any help.

    In order for a matrix to be singular, its determinant is zero. Take the determinant and obtain a characteristic polynomial. Solve the polynomial for 0 and you will have the values of lambda.
