Thread: Linear transformations question

Hi this is my first post to this forum and hopefully will not be my last. I'm having difficulty with this question and require help.

Using suitable transformations write the function
3x^2+8x-2xy-5y-y^2+19=0 in the form
AX^2+BY^2=1
I believe A & B are constants. Anyone have an idea how to approach this ?

I would also appreciate hints on this please! I have an idea how to deal with it but im not sure if thats really what the questions asking for so i shall keep my idea to myself for now!

There are several ways to do this, but I'm guessing that this is a question about rotation of axes. Go to that link for further information!
