Hi,

I am new to college and I am an oldie and never had the stuff I am learning now. I was wandering if someone can help me with this problem.

I need to do this,

solve: 2(x-1)-3 = -3x +2

I most definately appreciate any help with this.

which becomes:

2x - 5 = -3x + 2.

Now add 3x to both sides to give:

2x + 3x - 5 = -3x + 3x +2,

which becomes:

5x - 5 = 2.

Now add 5 to both sides:

5x - 5 + 5 = 2 + 5,

which is:

5x = 7.

Now divide both sides by 5 to give:

(5x)/5 = 7/5,

or:

x = 7/5 = 1.4.

Reality check: put x=1.4 in to the LHS of:

2(x-1)-3 = -3x +2

gives:

2(0.4) - 3 = -2.2.

Now put x=1.2 into the RHS gives:

-3*1.4 + 2 = -2.2

which checks out (note in this last expression I have used *

as the multiply symbol to avoid confusion with the decimal point

and x as a variable label).

Can someone tell me if I did this right.

Translate into a mathematical expression:

the difference between ten and the quotient of a number and five.

n/5-10

is that right?

Here is another one

translate: the sum of fifteen and the product of twelve and x.

15 + 12x ??????

translate into an equation and slove.

five less than the product of a number and two is seventeen.

2x-5=17

x=11

Translate in an equation and solve:

five more than the quotient of a number and three is eight..

I need help with this one. I came up with x/3 + 5 = 8

I need to sove it but have no idea what I am doing.

I need help with them all

Before I go, here is another...

solve: 2x - 6(x-2) = 3(x-4)

Thank You so much. I am not here looking for someone to give me the answers, I need help with how to do this stuff.

Thanks :confused:
