    Matrix transformations

    If Ae1=[1 k] and Ae2= [0 1] ,what type of transformation is A?
    Whats the correct answer here?

    What "types" are there? The difficulty with you not showing any attempt at all is that we don't know what "types" of transformations you have learned or what methods you have for working with transformations.

    I would be inclined to write the matrix representing the transformation and look at the determinant. Or would it be sufficient to determine whether or not this is a "linear" transformation? Is that what you mean by "type"?

    I think he means what is the "action" of A, does it rotate, etc..?

    You can see that the matrix representing A is (with respect to the standard basis)

    \begin{bmatrix}1&0\\k&1\end{bmatrix}

    This action is called a skew.
